Hey, CharLUGgers. Today a recruiter passed along some information about
some Python developer openings, and included in her message was a note about
a Linux Sysadmin job in the Charlotte area, too. Here's an excerpt from the
mail I asked the recruiter (Nanci Cronk, whose contact infformation is at
the bottom of this post) to send me:

---------------------------

[...]

These are all PERM/DIRECT-HIRE (not Contract) openings

[...]

Pennsylvania Open Source Architect/Developer: We’re seeking highly educated
software engineering professionals (Masters or PhD in Computer Science
preferred) with at least 3 years of professional and current hands-on
programming experience in an open source, large-scale, distributed computing
environment (strong Python, PHP, Perl, RoR, Java or other required). We’re
seeking someone out of a scalable, high-volume environment (someone who has
experience designing at least one large-scale system that has operated on
greater than 20 servers). We want someone who has experience writing clean
code – using source control and change management tools, ideally in an Agile
environment. And we need someone who has experience in and passion for
solving giant ‘puzzles’, perhaps someone with statistics or algorithms
experience and who has a great attitude for teamwork and company spirit. If
you enjoy working on high volume platforms, architecting solutions to large
scale problems, writing clean code, working to build a company from the
ground up then we may be interested. We offer our brilliant minds
competitive compensation, EQUITY, a work-hard, play-hard, fun work
environment with flexible hours, free food and a best-of-breed product.
This is too good to pass up!!

Charlotte, NC Python Backend Developer: Bachelors Degree in Computer
Science (BSCS, MSCS only) from an accredited university is a MUST and 3+
years of commercial and current Python server-side development experience is
required. You'll need to be able to point us to an actual, active and
functioning link to your code in order to be considered for this opening.
Strong database experience with PostgreSQL and strong XHTML web
templating/Cheetah experience along with a strong passion for and
understanding of Open Source and UNIX architecture. This position is in a
Microsoft-free environment, developing on OSX and deploying on Linux. Our
client is a steadily growing, Charlotte, NC-based commercial software
development firm (they are a product company, not a consulting or services
company). This is a not-for profit organization (an industry leading
product, in use for over 10 years) - their product is doing good and making
an impact on the world we live in. You'll be doing full life cycle
development (analysis, design, architecture, development, testing, etc).
And your creative ideas and input are not only valued here - they are
required!! You won't be just a number here - we want and need your energy
and your ideas to make our products even better! Additional opening in
Charlotte for a UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator. If you have any buddies
who are all about Linux System Admin (no Windows experience will be
considered) please pass the word.

Chicago, IL Python Developer: same as the Charlotte opening, but for this
opening you MUST be local to Chicago. No relocation is provided.

*** NOTE: Unfortunately, NO SPONSORSHIP candidates can be considered at
this time. Some relocation assistance is available for the Pennsylvania and
Charlotte openings. Unless you are a strong match to the above, with
current hands-on Python/Open Source development and architecture experience
and at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree, we won’t be able to reply to you
immediately. We will, however, keep your resume on file as future openings
arise if it is determined you are not a fit for the current openings.

that she hasn't herself reached out to yet.
